I was watching some TV the other night, and I landed on MTV's Made. You know, another entry in the plethora of makeover reality shows. Anyway, this one I caught was about a girl (I think her name was Kitty) who was pretty much as geeky as they come. A little on the tall and thin side, pale, glasses, wardrobe of jeans, sneakers, T-shirts with unicorns and dragons, collections of cows and anime in her room, etc. Anyway, she wanted to be "made" for her high school's beauty pagent. (I'm not entirely sure if it was just her high school...if so, that's a pretty big school). Being coached by a local pagent winner (not like Miss America or something), of course everything came out with a happy ending - she's all self confident and beautiful, and ended up as first runner-up.
I was kinda flipping in and out of the program, since there was also the side story of her building up enough confidence to ask out this guy Matt, who works as a pin-monkey at the bowling alley. Which is surprising in itself...I didn't think there were any non-automated alleys left. That arc went the total teenage drama route - they go to a dance, and while she's off being all pagent-y like chatting up her friends, he's off dancing with another girl and making out with her. I don't know, I must've gone to the most boring high school in America to not have anything like that happen. Anyway, my point is, I was totally crushing on this girl. In both her uber-geek mode and her dolled-up pagent mode. At least, my inner-high-school-kid was crushing on her.
