I always seem to complain I don't blog often enough. What do you think? Should I make an effort to blog more items? Is anyone even reading this? What I'd like to avoid is degrading into a daily bitchfest about my pathetic life. Well, a couple anecdotes for you, then. Today I was going through the tests that need to get done at work. These tests are called tensiles, C-tears, run tears, abrasions...things like that. I was deciding what I felt like doing versus what needed to get done versus what I had time to do, and so I thought this to myself: "Okay, I'll do the abrasion, I can put the tensiles and C-tears on one page...maybe even squeeze the gravities in...and tomorrow I'll get the runs." Then I face-palmed myself. In an effort to build up some sort of social life, I decided to start participating in game tournaments at the local comic book shop. In particular I have an interest in Pirates of the Spanish Main, though there are 4 more expansions with similar names. They call it a "Constructable Strategy Game"...they come in packs of styrene cards that have a similar feel to credit cards (though perhaps a little more brittle), but you punch pieces out to make little model pirate ships with which to play the game. And all the measurement is based on the length and width of the cards, so everything is self-included...they even come with a tiny d6. So anyway, two weeks ago, I see when the tourneys are scheduled, and show up at the appropriate time. Unfortunately, I'm the only one who shows up...even the guy supposed to be running the event isn't there. But it's not a huge loss...according to the rules, since I'm the only one to show, I automatically win. So I walk out of the store with some limited edition cards, without having to play a game! (Of course, I wanted to play, but hey, free cards...) So I try again this past weekend. And the same result. Now, obviously this game isn't as popular (or at least as marketed) as WizKids' other game, HeroClix...which I might have to get into if I plan on playing anything. Then again, there are plenty of people playing Magic: The Gathering, but 1) usually at a time I can't show up, and 2) they're all high school kids...and I'd like to avoid being the creepy 30-year-old man playing cards with 16-year-old boys if I can help it. So now I have to decide whether it's worth it to continue to be the only one to show up, even if it's for the sake of free rare cards. : Although, if anyone nearby wants to play, be sure to let me know...
